Nahal (Halley) Toosi covers foreign policy and national security for POLITICO. She’s been a journalist for more than 20 years, if you count her college newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel. Toosi joined POLITICO in 2013 from The Associated Press, which placed her in New York, Islamabad, London and, occasionally, Kabul. One of the biggest stories she covered while with The AP was the killing of Osama bin Laden. Toosi also has worked for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which sent her to report from Iraq during the 2003 U.S. invasion. Her biggest project in recent months was a story for POLITICO Magazine about the Rohingya refugee crisis and U.S.-Burmese relations.
